Designed by Paul Renner and released by the Bauer Type Foundry in Frankfurt in 1927, Futura is built from circles, squares and triangles. It is the typeface on the plaque Apollo 11 left on the Moon.

A shop sign, a poster, a book cover, a menu, a screen. Frame the words in the viewfinder, or pick a photo you already have.
TypedBy names the typeface and shows plainly whether it is free for commercial use, for personal use only, or needs a paid license. When it cannot be sure, it says so and shows the closest matches.
Every result comes with free Google Fonts that look almost the same, how similar each one is, and a short note on why. Type your own words to preview them, then send the link to your computer.
Loved a font, then saw the price? There is often a free one that looks nearly the same, and you can put it on your logo.
Open-licensed, checked against the Google Fonts library. Logos, print, web and apps.
Fine for a birthday card. Not for anything you sell or promote.
Buy a license from the foundry before commercial use, or pick a free look-alike.
In 1525 Albrecht Dürer published Underweysung der Messung, showing how to build Roman capitals with nothing but a compass and a ruler. In the 1690s a committee working for Louis XIV went further and drew a royal alphabet on a fine grid of squares.
Our icon is drawn on that kind of grid: eight squares by eight, a circle and two diagonals. The letter on top does not follow it. The t leans, its corners are soft, and it keeps clear of the lines.
That is what TypedBy is about. Know the rules type was built on, then choose the letter that feels right.
Each scan also teaches you something: the family the typeface belongs to, the letters that give it away, and who made it and why.
